Private small group art sessions
Have you been faced with a Teacher Only Day at school and you need to find a worthwhile activity for your children for the day?

Do you want to organise a special day for a group of children on a day that is not in our usual holiday programmes?

Our private sessions are the same price as our holiday art workshops. You can choose projects from the current holiday programme listed on our holiday programmes page or talk to Mandy to customise your own. Give us your date and we'll organise the rest!

Please note:
Our art classes are designed for children who are interested in art and who are capable of focusing for 6 hours on a creative project (with breaks of course). Please ensure your child is interested in the projects you have chosen together. If you are booking in a 5 year old, please make sure they are up to working in this way for a whole day.

Cox's Bay Pavilion in Cox's Bay Reserve, Herne Bay, Auckland. The perfect space with a large field in front and a cool playground behind - for breaks that are safe and fun!

Monday December 23rd
Wrap it up!​

Decorate a roll of natural paper in a variety of beautiful ways and create the coolest wrapping paper for this year's Christmas presents.
​
Bawbles with collage and ink, reindeer with finger prints and paint, coloured dot stickers, drawing with white ink, and watercolour painted Xmas shapes. Then come up with your own design!
​

Friday December 20th
Christmas Garlands
Herne Bay, Kumeu, Takapuna, Kohimarama

Explore different ways to use watercolour paints, pattern, shape, colour and placement and create a festive and unique Christmas garland using double sided Christmasy shapes of your choice connected with twine.
​
Hang your garland at home either swinging across the room or hanging down vertically. Use it every Christmas for years to come!
Monday January 20th
Food Glorious Food!
Herne Bay, Takapuna, Kohimarama

Get hungry with creating 2D and 3D artworks in response to artists like Claes Oldenburg, Peter Anton and Wayne Thiebaud who use food as a theme in their work.
​
Design and create a cool little cup cake trinket box out of 2 types of air dry clay and mixed media, a pastel and dye artwork of something cakey and a watercolour painting of a plate of donuts. YUM!
​
Develop skills in drawing, showing perspective, sculpting, painting and design.
​
​
Wednesday Jan 22nd
A - Tissue!
Herne Bay, Kumeu, Takapuna, Kohimarama, Mt Eden/Epsom

Explore and create with beautiful tissue papers in different ways!
​
Create a self standing lantern sculpture on tracing paper using coloured tissue paper cut into beautiful shapes, inspired by the simple organic shapes of Henri Matisse. Place fairy lights in your lantern when you get home to create a gorgeous light for your bedroom!
​
Make a stunning and unique abstract collage using overlapping layers of tissue cut into irregular and regular shapes and ink line drawing.
​
Make some pastel artworks of your choice to connect to your tissue works.

Clay Homes

We know this is a favourite! Explore different home ideas and create your own home design using a glass jar and lid and special foamy air dry clay.
Create windows and other spaces so you can place a light inside your jar at home for a cosy homely lamp.
​
It could be a home for a fairy, an astronaut, a bug, an elf or even your dream home! You choose!
​
And finally create a fun painted and collaged landscape to place your home into.
​

YOU CAN BOOK DAY 1 ONLY BUT NOT DAY 2 ONLY. We recommend booking 2 days for the whole experience and to complete your sculpture.

​Cartoon Coolness

For all you cartoon and animation fans! Discover and practise techniques for drawing cartoon characters with a focus on features, shapes, expressions, showing personality, colour and movement.
​
Create a selection of your own cartoon characters: draw them using watercolour pencils then make large versions of 1 character using posca pens, paints, inks or dyes (you choose!).
​
Then make a family of your own 3D cartoon characters using our favourite brightly coloured foamy air dry clay.
​

Shapely Abstracts

Inspired by USA artist Reggie Laurent, explore and experiment with shape, pattern, colour and line in the most fun ways!
​
Collage coloured papers on to black paper, draw and add special paint with Posca Pens and then top with cool blobs of paint and mixed media.
​
Colourful and sooo happy - a perfect painting for your wall.
Monday January 27th
​Totally Toadstools
Herne Bay, Kumeu, Takapuna, Kohimarama, Mt Eden/Epsom

Explore and experiment with cool sgraffito ideas using pastels, paint and scratching techniques.
​
Draw a selection of wild mushroom shapes, inspired by Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama's mushroom artworks.
Apply pastel colours, paint on top then carefully scratch in the line and patterns to expose the colours underneath.
Cut out each mushroom and create an awesome composition of quirky mushies with a beautiful contrasting background behind.​
